About us

Hawthorn Brewing Company is the dream of three friends from Melbourne: Peter Willis, Hamish Reed and Darren Milo. We've come a long way since we began home brewing more than 10 years ago to share with our mates at barbeques.

In 2008, Hawthorn Brewing Company was established with the aim of bringing our great tasting recipes to the thirsty masses. It hasn't always been easy, but we're sure every drinker will agree it was worth it after their first taste of a Hawthorn Pale or Amber Ale.

As part of our passion for great beer and in the name of self-less research, the three of us help in running a small, invitation only beer festival, which celebrated its 10th anniversary in early 2010.

At the October 09 Federation Square Micro Brewery showcase, we were very proud that our Pale Ale was joint winner of the People's Choice Award in the very competitive best "Pale Ale" section. In the follow up March 2010 showcase, our Pale again trumped the field to be named winner of the People's Choice Award for a second event running. The Sunday Herald-Sun followed up this win with a well timed "Drink of the week" feature on our Pale Ale.

Our beers were formally recognised at the Australian International Beer Awards in May 2010 with a stunning 2 silvers and 3 bronze medals across both tastings and packaged categories.

Hot on the heals of these awards the Amber Ale collected a bronze medal at the largest international packaged beer competition in the world – the 2010 International Beer Challenge in London.

We are currently researching and trialling our 3rd beer, which will be a pilsner, and should have this in the market for a great spring 2010.
